Connect with Sustainability Leaders in Higher Ed this Feb. 10-12 at the 2019 Higher Education Climate Leadership Summit
The CustomerFirst Renewables team will be in Tempe, AZ this Feb. 10-12 for the 2019 Higher Education Climate Leadership Summit. CFR, a conference sponsor and proud partner of Second Nature, will take part in several discussions (both round table and panel formats) about how Higher Education institutions are pushing the ball forward on sustainability education and research, climate adaptation and resilience, and setting and meeting carbon/GHG emissions targets. During this 1-hour and 40-minute session, attendees will be given the chance to hear an intimate presentation from 3 separate table top presenters during (3) 40-minute sessions. Presenters will speak for approximately 10 minutes without powerpoints and the remaining time will be spent engaging with and creating new connections with those seated at their table. Attendees will be given breaks between each conversation to switch to a new table topic, and presenters will speak to 3 separate groups of participants during this time.
When: Monday, Feb. 11, 11am – 12:40 pm.
What: “Demand-Side Aggregation: Teaming Up to Purchase Renewable Energy at Scale.” Buyer-driven renewable energy (RE) aggregation is an innovative and cost-effective procurement approach that allows campuses of various sizes to access the economic, environmental and strategic benefits of large-scale RE. CFR’s Susanne Fratzscher and Chris O’Brien will facilitate a conversation about aggregating demand as a group to allow campuses increase their purchasing power, shape their ‘ask’ to the market, leverage mutually reinforcing team benefits, and procure RE tailored to their needs. Participants will share insights and discuss how to start a RE process, how to identify aggregation partners, and how to build buy-in from leadership and other stakeholders on campus.

What: “Showing Campus Leadership through Large Scale Energy Procurement.” Renewable energy has moved from an operational target to a strategic imperative on campuses across the country. Still, it takes strong leadership to engage and build trust among stakeholders and campus decision-makers, and accelerate impactful renewable energy deployment. CFR President & CEO Gary Farha will discuss with campus leaders how they successfully navigated organizational hurdles and enacted meaningful change on their institution’s pathway to carbon neutrality.
